Connecting Worlds: How to Add Servers to Minecraft on Nintendo Switch

Feb. 11, 2023

Nintendo Switch

Minecraft is a game that allows players to explore vast virtual worlds and embark on exciting adventures. While playing on your Nintendo Switch provides a fantastic single-player experience, connecting to multiplayer servers opens up a whole new world of possibilities. In this article, we will guide you through the process of adding servers to Minecraft on your Nintendo Switch, allowing you to connect with friends and join exciting multiplayer communities.

Please note that the steps outlined below assume that you have a stable internet connection and an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Step 1: Update Minecraft to the Latest Version

Before adding servers, ensure that your Minecraft game is updated to the latest version. To check for updates, navigate to the Minecraft game icon on your Nintendo Switch home screen, press the "+" button, and select "Software Update." If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install it.

Step 2: Get the Server IP Address

To connect to a specific server, you will need its IP address. This address is a numerical code that identifies the server you want to join. You can obtain the IP address from the server's website or by reaching out to the server administrators or community members. Note down the IP address for the server you wish to connect to.

Step 3: Launch Minecraft and Access the "Play" Menu

On your Nintendo Switch home screen, navigate to the Minecraft game icon and launch the game. Once the game has loaded, select "Play" from the main menu.

Step 4: Select "Servers"

In the "Play" menu, scroll down and select the "Servers" tab. This will take you to the server menu, where you can add and manage servers.

Step 5: Add a New Server

In the server menu, select the "Add Server" option. Here, you will be prompted to enter the server details.

Step 6: Enter Server Name and IP Address

In the server details screen, enter a name for the server in the "Server Name" field. This can be any name you choose and is used to identify the server in your server list.

Next, enter the IP address of the server you wish to connect to in the "Server Address" field. Ensure that you enter the IP address correctly, as any errors may prevent you from connecting to the server.

Step 7: Save the Server Details

After entering the server name and IP address, select the "Done" button to save the server details. The server will now appear in your server list.

Step 8: Connect to the Server

To connect to the server, select its name in the server list and press the "Join Server" button. Minecraft will attempt to connect to the server using the provided IP address.

Step 9: Enjoy Multiplayer Gameplay

Once connected, you will be able to explore the server's world, interact with other players, and participate in various activities. Make sure to follow the server rules and guidelines to ensure a positive and enjoyable multiplayer experience.

Adding servers to Minecraft on your Nintendo Switch opens up a whole new world of multiplayer possibilities. By following the steps outlined above, you can easily connect with friends and join exciting server communities. Remember to obtain the server IP address, update your Minecraft game to the latest version, and save the server details correctly. With a stable internet connection and an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription, you can dive into multiplayer adventures and enjoy the collaborative and social aspects of Minecraft on your Nintendo Switch. Happy exploring!
